Why this directory exists
The original HackerTube already offers a strong discovery interface. This site focuses on the first visit: what HackerTube is, where it came from, how its recommendation evidence works and which small set of videos makes a useful starting path.
The homepage remains a working tool. You can search the complete published snapshot, filter positive recommendation signals, save a local watchlist and play videos through YouTube’s embedded player. For a more guided start, use the AI and data, software or mathematics topic guide.
The relationship to Andrej Karpathy
Andrej Karpathy created and published HackerTube. HackerTube Explorer is independently operated and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Karpathy. His name appears prominently because it is essential context for the project, not because this site represents him.
Editorial principles
- Make the original HackerTube link easy to find.
- Separate positive recommendations from neutral or critical mentions.
- Label the dataset date instead of implying a live or permanent count.
- Use model-generated summaries as navigation aids, not unquestionable reviews.
- Keep watchlists in the visitor’s browser without requiring an account.
How the site is maintained
The independent operator of hackertube.top maintains the interface, English explanations, Chinese localization and watch-path ordering. Source video fields remain attributable to the public export. Automated generation is used to build pages consistently, while editorial text, route order and internal links are maintained in the site source rather than written back to the original dataset.
The site does not claim that every video has been watched end to end. When a route or explanation depends on source labels, that limitation is stated on the page. Questions about the process can be sent to hello@hackertube.top.
Corrections and updates
A correction starts with the page URL and the exact statement or video involved. The issue is checked against the video, the linked Hacker News discussion or the official data documentation before the page is changed. Dates are updated only when the content or selection changes in a meaningful way. Use the contact page to report a broken video, labeling error or missing attribution.
What comes from the source
Video titles, channels, summaries, topics, tags and Hacker News signals come from the October 31, 2026 public export. The focused watch-path order and explanatory copy are specific to this site. See Sources & data for the complete attribution and limitations, then use the HackerTube guide to choose the right way into the catalog.
